What a nearshore Staff Accountant does for you

Staff accountant is the workhorse role of most accounting departments. It is usually the first or second rung after a degree, and it carries a large share of the close: bank and credit card reconciliations, standard and recurring journal entries, prepaid and accrual roll-forwards, intercompany entries and the supporting schedules a senior accountant or controller reviews. Done well, it is what lets your senior people spend their time on analysis instead of tick-and-tie.

You'll find staff accountants in two settings. In-house, at companies running QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Microsoft Dynamics, they own a defined slice of the close checklist and specific balance sheet accounts. At CPA and outsourced accounting firms, a staff accountant might handle write-up and monthly reconciliations for many small clients, or assist on audit and review fieldwork and tax workpapers. Firm work rewards speed across varied clients; in-house work rewards depth in one set of books.

Because a staff accountant takes direction from a senior or controller, the review loop matters. A nearshore hire on your hours can get a review note at 10 a.m. and have the fix posted before lunch, which compresses close by days compared with a team that only overlaps for an hour. It also makes training practical: you can share a screen and walk through your chart of accounts and close calendar live.

When you brief us, describe your close: how many entities, which accounts this person will own, the system you use and whether you use a close tool like FloQast or BlackLine. We'll screen for reconciliation accuracy, U.S. GAAP fundamentals and the specific ERP, and we'll tell you honestly whether you need a staff accountant or someone more senior.

Hiring a remote Staff Accountant: questions

What's the difference between a staff accountant and a senior accountant?

A staff accountant prepares reconciliations, entries and schedules; a senior accountant reviews them, handles more complex accounting and often owns the close. If you need both levels, we can recruit for each.

Can a staff accountant work in our NetSuite or QuickBooks Online?

Yes. Both are cloud-based and you assign the role and permissions, just as you would for an in-office employee. We can screen specifically for experience in your system.

Do they know U.S. GAAP?

We screen for U.S. GAAP fundamentals such as accrual accounting, revenue and expense recognition and reconciliations. More technical topics like ASC 606 or ASC 842 are usually a senior or controller responsibility, though some staff candidates have that exposure.

Can they help our CPA firm with audit or tax season?

Yes. Pulling PBC support and preparing workpapers is common staff-level work, and working U.S. hours means they can respond to your auditors the same day.

How do we train someone remotely on our close?

Most clients use screen-share walkthroughs, a written close checklist and a short shadowing period. Because the hire works your hours, training happens live instead of through overnight emails.

How quickly can we hire?

Staff-level roles are often among our faster searches, but it depends on your system and requirements. We'll give you a realistic timeline on the strategy call.
