Hire a remote accountant who owns the close, not just the entries
We recruit English-speaking accountants from Mexico and Latin America who work in U.S. GAAP, keep your general ledger accurate and deliver financial statements you can rely on, all during your workday.
Also hired as: Remote Accountant · General Ledger Accountant · Senior Accountant · Corporate Accountant · Outsourced Accountant
What a nearshore Accountant does for you
An accountant sits one level above the transaction work. Where a bookkeeper records what happened, an accountant decides how it should be reported: booking accruals and deferrals, depreciating fixed assets, recognizing revenue in the right period, reconciling every balance sheet account and producing financial statements under U.S. GAAP. For many small and mid-sized U.S. companies, a strong accountant is the person who turns a cash-basis checkbook into accrual-basis books that a lender, investor or auditor will accept.
The role looks different depending on who hires it. In-house, at a growing company, the accountant usually owns the monthly close from start to finish, works with the outside CPA firm at year end, and handles 1099s, sales tax filings and the audit or review request list. At a CPA or outsourced accounting firm, the same person juggles a portfolio of client books, performs write-up and cleanup work, and prepares the financials a manager reviews before they go to the client. Both are common placements for us; the screening questions differ, so tell us which one you need.
Close is a deadline, and deadlines are where time zones hurt. If your controller needs a reconciliation explained on business day three, an accountant on U.S. Central or Eastern time can walk through it on a call that afternoon. That same overlap matters when your AP team, your bank or your CPA firm has a question, and it is the main reason companies choose nearshore over offshore for this role.
Ask us to screen for the specifics that matter in your books. That might be accrual-basis experience versus cash, a particular ERP (QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Microsoft Dynamics), multi-entity consolidations, inventory and cost accounting, or nonprofit fund accounting. We test U.S. GAAP knowledge and reconciliation skill directly during vetting, not just on paper.

Hiring a remote Accountant: questions
What's the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?
A bookkeeper records day-to-day transactions and keeps accounts current. An accountant adjusts and reconciles those records, applies U.S. GAAP, runs the close and produces financial statements. Many companies hire both, with the accountant reviewing the bookkeeper's work.
Do they know U.S. GAAP?
Yes, that's a core part of our screening for this role. Latin American accounting degrees are built on local or IFRS-based standards, so we look specifically for U.S. GAAP experience and test it during vetting.
Can a remote accountant work directly in our accounting system?
Yes. QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite and Sage Intacct are all cloud-based, and you control the user role and permissions. Most clients give their accountant the same access an in-office accountant would have.
Can they work with our outside CPA firm?
Yes. Supporting the year-end audit, review or tax return is a normal part of the job, and because they work U.S. hours they can join calls with your CPA firm directly.
Can they file our 1099s and sales tax returns?
They can prepare 1099s and sales tax returns and submit them through your systems, such as your accounting software or Avalara, under your authorization. Tax positions and sign-off stay with you or your tax advisor.
How long does it take to hire an accountant?
It depends on the seniority, the software and any industry experience you need. We'll give you a realistic timeline on the strategy call.
